How to Care for Non-Stick Cookware

Non-stick cookware is a kitchen essential, but it requires proper care to maintain its non-stick properties. Here's how to keep your non-stick pans in great shape:

1. Avoid Metal Utensils

Metal utensils can scratch the non-stick surface, causing it to degrade over time. Use wooden, silicone, or plastic utensils instead.

2. Use Low to Medium Heat

High heat can damage the non-stick coating and cause it to release harmful fumes. Most non-stick pans are designed for low to medium heat. For high-heat searing, use a stainless steel or cast-iron pan.

3. Hand Wash Your Pans

While some non-stick pans are labeled as dishwasher safe, it's best to hand wash them with a soft sponge and mild soap. The high heat and harsh detergents in a dishwasher can wear down the non-stick coating.

4. Don't Use Cooking Sprays

Cooking sprays contain propellants that can build up on the non-stick surface and are difficult to remove. Instead, use a small amount of oil or butter.
